My child has “buck teeth.” What are some of the ways we could have this treated?
“Buck teeth” is a condition where the upper teeth overlap the lowers in a horizontal relation; orthodontists would call this exaggerated overjet. This typically involves a condition where one or more of the following conditions are exaggerated:
perhaps the top teeth stick out too far; the focus should be on bringing them back.
the bone supporting the upper teeth can be too far forward; efforts should be made limit further jaw growth.
the lower jaw bone might be too far back, the emphasis should be on enhancing lower jaw growth.
the lower teeth can be set too far back on the lower jaw; in this case you can bring the lower teeth farther forward on the jaw bone.
combinations exist of these two conditions; or there can be a vertical component to the problem.
